A very practical way to identify and learn weeds is by the time they emerge in the field every spring. The following is a list of common midwestern, corn-belt weeds organized on the relative order they emerge from the soil in every spring. It is based on a publication by Buhler, Hartzler, Forcella, and Gunsolus (1996).
