Kenwood is a cultivar developed by Iowa State University, Ames, IA which was selected from the cross ' Elgin' by Asgrow A1937. IA1006 has white flowers, tawny pubescence, brown pods at maturity, and seeds with black hila and dull seed coats.
IA2007R has specific resistance to Rps1-k of Phytopthora rot. It is equal or superior in Yield to widely-grown private and public varieties of similar maturity that are susceptible to the disease. IA2007R was derived from 18 BC3F2 plants from the backcross IA20074 x Archer. Archer was the source of the Rps1-k allele for resistance to races 1-11, 13-15, 17, 18, 21-22, 24, and 26 of Phytophthora rot caused by Phytophthora megasperma Drechs. f. sp. glycinea Kuan & Erwin. The BC2F2-derived lines that were bulked to form IA2007R were homogeneous for the Rps1-k allele and similar in agronomic and plant characteristics to IA2007. IA2007R is of Maturity Group II. IA2007R has purple flowers, tawny pubescence, brown pods at maturity, and seeds with brown hila and dull seed coats.

Elgin 87 was the source of the Rpsl-k allele for resistance to races 1-11, 13-15, 17, 18, 21-22, 24, and 26 of Phytophthora rot caused by Phytophthora megasperma Drechs. f. sp. glycinea Kuan & Erwin. The BC4F3-derived lines that were bulked to form Kenwood 94 were homozygous for the Rpsl-k allele, uniform for agronomic characters, and similar in plant type and maturity to Kenwood. Kenwood 94 has purple flowers, tawny pubescence, brown pods at maturity, and seeds with black hila and dull seed coats.
Conrad 94 was obtained by transferring the Rpsl-k and Rps6 alleles for resistance to Phytophthora into the cultivar Conrad by backcrossing. Rpsl-k was obtained from Elgin 87 and Rps6 from Preston BC-11-8. Each allele was transferred independently to Conrad with four backcrosses. BC4F1 plants from the two backcrossing programs were intercrossed to obtain F1 plants with both alleles. F4 plants homozygous for both alleles were progeny tested and lines with similar agronomic characteristics were bulked to form the new cultivar. IA2065 was the highest yielding public variety or experimental line in the 2003 Uniform Regional Test II that was conducted by public soybean breeders at 18 locations in the northern United States and Canada. The variety has good lodging resistance, protein content, and oil content. It has seeds with black hilum color and dull seed coat luster. IA2065 was compared with public and private varieties and brands in the 2003 Iowa Crop Performance test conducted by the Iowa Crop Improvement Association and Iowa State University. IA2068 has seeds with yellow hilum color and dull seed coat luster, which makes it desirable for production of either commodity or food-grade soybeans. IA2068 has resistance to the soybean cyst nematode (SCN). Reproduction of cysts on the variety was evaluated in three soil types by Dr. Terry Niblack of the University of Illinois. Its resistance was compared with other public and private varieties and brands in the 2003 Iowa Crop Performance test conducted by the Iowa Crop Improvement Association and Iowa State University. It is recommended that growers rotate resistant varieties on SCN-infested soils. For producers of food-grade soybeans with a yellow hilum color, IA2068 will serve as a good alternative to IA1008, a variety with yellow hilum color and resistance to SCN. The two varieties have had similar yields on unifested soils during three years in the Iowa Specialty Soybean Test.
