Centennial Celebration 2002
|
In celebration of our centennial we held numerous events:
A traveling exhibit detailing our history appeared across Iowa at many events including agronomy research farm field days, the Iowa State Fair, the Farm Progress Show, and the World Food Prize.
Faculty, staff, and graduate students celebrated the centennial at a departmental picnic on July 25 Brookside Park in Ames, IA. See Photos
Alumni and friends attended an agronomy football pregame party on September 21 in Ames, Iowa. The Iowa State Cyclones played the Troy State Trojans at 6 p.m. At the party, alumni socialized with current ISU faculty, staff, and students as well as other alumni. See Photos
The night prior to the tailgate the department sponsored a play on the life of Henry A. Wallace. Based on the life of the famous agronomist and statesman, American Dreamer was a window into Iowa's agricultural past. More
ISU agronomy students filled a time capsule in October for future students to open at the department's 150th anniversary. "We're doing this as one of our Ag Week activities. We selected the items and are hoping to be here in 50 years to open the capsule and tell future agronomy students about them," Kristy Van Tilburg said. Van Tilburg is an ISU agronomy junior and Ag Council representative.
