Seed
Production Services
ICIA currently offers three mechanisms for offering
unbiased, third-party service to seed producers. They are Certified
seed, Quality
Assurance seed and Native Species
seed.
Certified seed is seed produced from approved
seedstock which is used to produce a variety for marketing as Foundation,
Registered or Certified seed. Quality Assurance seed is an alternative
for varieties or brands which are not eligible to be or do not
need to be marketed as Certified seed. Native Species seed is certified
based upon the source or geographic origin of the seed’s
collection source.
Services included in these programs include:
--Recordkeeping
--Field Inspection
--Seed Sampling
--Lab Inspection
--Labeling
As a part of these programs, ICIA has established an Approved
Conditioner program. Under this program, individuals and businesses
must demonstrate having the knowledge, facilities and personnel
to properly condition seed.
