Agron523:
Molecular Plant Breeding
William D Beavis, Thomas Lübberstedt
- Prerequisites: 542, 421 and / or 521
- Goal: To provide an overview of genomics-based plant breeding strategies
- Brief course description: This course deals with Plant Breeding in the era of sequenced genomes and transformation. High throughput genomic technologies will be presented in relation to various applications in Plant Breeding. Students will learn to analyse data from high throughput biotechnologies, understand the use of such data in quality control measures, make decisions about application of alternative genomic technologies, and whether such technologies will enhance conventional breeding strategies.
- Organization: Seven modules, each consisting of (3) lectures and a lab each week; some modules may take two weeks to complete. Grading: Lab/Problems- Notebook 1/3, Midterm 1/3, Final 1/3.
