Course Objectives:

  1. To develop an understanding of basic concepts of forage quality and nutritive value.
  2. To develop an understanding of laboratory methods used for evaluating forage quality.
  3. To develop an understanding of the nutritional biochemistry of forage species.
  4. To develop an understanding of plant and environmental factors which affect forage quality.
  5. To develop an understanding of principles involved in the post-harvest physiology and preservation of forages.
  6. To describe systems of forage utilization including hay, silage, and pasture.
