Dr. Schnable's Laboratory is conducting the basic genetic and genomic research necessary to facilitate crop improvement. Major activities include contributing to the maize genome sequencing project, elucidating the mechanisms responsible for heterosis, and developing "carbon capturing crops" to promote carbon sequestration in agricultural soils.
