Soybean Molecular Genetics

Understanding the molecular basis of the soybean-Phytophthora sojae interaction is the major goal of my program. We have applied map-based cloning strategies in isolating Rps1-k, Rps4 and Rps6 that confer resistance against this root pathogen. Cloning of these genes will assist us in developing novel soybean germplasm with increased resistance to P. sojae races. Long-term goal of my lab is to develop soybean germplasm with broad-spectrum resistance to many pathogens.
