Dr. Lamkey is the Chair, Department of Agronomy and Pioneer Distinguished Chair in Maize Breeding. His research is focused on the application of quantitative genetics to plant breeding problems. Specifically he is interested in the genetic basis of inbreeding depression and heterosis. Dr. Lamkey has also studied the epistasis in hybrid performance. Dr.Lamkey runs an inbred line development program and conducts several recurrent selection programs. The traits of primary interest include grain yield, agronomic traits, amino acid content, phytic acid content, and protein content.
