Soybean genomics and gene discovery
With collaborators we have developed one of the largest EST collections for any plant species. We are using DNA sequences from this collection and from those of other species to learn much about genome duplication events and about evolution of duplicated genes. We are also applying these sequences to a detailed molecular genetic map of the soybean genome and have begun to integrate sequences into a physical map. We are using our knowledge of soybean genome organization to study genome evolution and to conduct map-based gene cloning of genes involved in QTL.
