2006 IPPM Faculty/Student Retreat

- survival of the fittest

The annual IPPM Faculty/Student Retreat was held on Saturday, September 9, 2006, at the Story County Conservation Center of McFarland Park. A total of 25 students (92%) and 19 faculty members (52%) attended the events. After introducing the new students and faculty members, the Program Chair Dr. Kan Wang presented Leadership Appreciation Plaques to four past Chairs of the Program, Dr. Cecil Stewart (1987-1992), Dr. Martin Spalding (1992-2000), Dr. David Hannapel (2000-2003), and Dr. Robert Thornburg (2003-2006).

Dr. Cecil Stewart, the Emeritus Professor of GDCB and the first IPPM Program Chair, gave a historic review of the program in his opening speech. He was pleased with the current status of the program and encourage the program continue to grow and adapt to ever changing learning environment (survival of the fittest).

Six faculty members gave lectures on their research programs and eight students presented nine posters on their graduate projects. A poster reviewing committee (two faculty and four students) led by Dr. Dick Gladon selected three top poster presentations. First prize: $150 travel grant to Antony Chettoor (GDCB); Second prize: $100 gift certificate for any purchase in the Chemical Store to Lorena Moeller (Agron); and Third Prize: $50 gift certificate for any purchase in the Central Store to Fredy Romero (Horticulture).  Eight door prizes were given to four faculty and four students (more photos).
