You will be evaluated in this course on your performance in 2 categories:
Your grades and performance will be recorded in ClassNet.
Weekly Examinations
Exams will be approximately weekly, open-book, open-WWW site. I will send you the URL (web site address) of each scheduled exam. You will have 2-3 days to return the exam (as an MS Word document attachment) to me by email.
NORMALLY THIS SEMESTER I WILL EMAIL YOU THE EXAM URL ON LATE THURSDAY, AND YOU WILL RETURN THE COMPLETED ANSWER SHEET NOT LATER THAN MIDNIGHT, SUNDAY.
When and How to Take the Exam:
Late Exam Policy. Points will be subtracted for exams submitted late. Once the exams are graded we will discuss the exam in the eClass discussion room if needed. No exams will be accepted after this time. IT IS IMPORTANT TO KEEP UP TO DATE ON YOUR WEEKLY EXAMS.
Honors System
If you are clever you can find a way to cheat on
these exams. If I find evidence of this I will automatically flunk you and
send an appropriate letter for your permanent file. There is no need to do
this. Past experience with students has shown that you are more motivated
than other students and are taking this course to learn about weeds. With
weekly exams and discussion it may take just as long to cheat on an exam as take
the open book exam, answer all the questions and post your comments on WHATSUP? Someday the WWW will have a secure testing procedure. I refuse
to slow your education down by having you take proctored exams in the area you
live.
eClassRoom Discussion Questions
will occur regularly on different topics to
supplement your learning. You will be required to comment on the
questions presented, as well as read and understand what other class members
have said in these discussions.
Because we don't meet face to face in a classroom, all our communication will be by typing. This puts a very large responsibility on all of us to communicate effectively with written communication. This is a positive benefit, and one of the strong features of this course. I will not grade you on spelling, syntax, etc., but you all are college students so I expect well thoughtout and coherent responses. I am looking forward to some interesting discussions.
You will be graded on your responses. Responses like "I agree with the last person" are not acceptable unless you present complete new information with it. The group interaction we develop in the eclassroom will be unique to our group. I will be very clear as we proceed what are good responses and what is poorly presented. I will give bonus points for exceptional contributions. I will never ever penalize you for anything you say in class unless it is incomplete or not stated. Feel free to ask any question you want, there is no such thing as a stupid question or comment. If you are thinking of a question, chances are other students are too. The course is limited to 12 students to ensure we get to discuss things in the chat room.
