EEB 585 Extended Field Trip 2006:
The Wisconsin-Iowa Mississippi River Coast

Research Goals for the Trip

The research goal of the trip is modest, but I think it will help unify our experiences and make available our individual expertise and interests to all in the group.  The goal will be to observe and document as much biology as we can.  We may consider forming specialized teams (Team Planta?  Team Amphibian?  Team Mammal?) to focus on one part of the biota, we may switch people in these teams daily or have them for the duration.  We may set up teams on the basis of alternative organizations: animals, plants, microorganisms, breadth of species diversity, reptiles, biota by cline-location-resource-microhabitat, birds, invasive species, any novel approaches that will increase our observations, bring the group together as a community, and broaden our perspectives on this incredible river system.  The product of these observations will be a web site reporting what we saw by means of text and pictures.  As such I think having many digital cameras (everyone?) will be a good approach in gathering and reporting observations.
