SASES Students Attend International Annual Meeting

At the beginning of November, ISU agronomy students attended the Students of Agronomy, Soils, and Environmental Sciences (SASES) American Society of Agronomy International Annual Meeting. SASES is the undergraduate program for the American Society of Agronomy. “SASES brings students together throughout the year at the Annual Meeting, spring meeting, and contests such as crops and soil judging. There are over 600 members of SASES who participate in contests, apply for scholarships, and prepare for careers in Agronomy, Crops, and Soil Science.” To learn more about the program check out their website: https://www.agronomy.org/undergrads/

This annual meeting took place in Salt Lake City, Utah. “The Societies Annual Meeting features thousands of technical presentations, along with a host of networking events and award ceremonies. The world-class exhibition displays the latest scientific equipment, supplies, services, and reference materials available.” The theme of this years meeting was “A Creative Economy For Sustainable Development”. During the meeting our ISU students competed in various categories and attended club meetings where new officers elected. Parker Kleigl, junior in Agronomy, was elected as the new public relations officer for SASES. Wyatt Bailey, sophomore in Agronomy placed first individually in the the crops showcase. Melinda Zubrod, junior in Agronomy placed second in the undergraduate oral research presentation. Haley Stahl, senior in Agronomy placed second in the internship poster contest. Congratulations to these individuals, we are proud to have them representing the department and our university. As a team, they placed 6th out of 17 team in the crops showcase and were runner up in the quiz bowl.
