Opportunities

GLSI researchers examining an exposed paleosol profile along a vertical soil cut in a field site

We welcome students and scholars who are passionate about digital soil mapping, geospatial technologies, and soil science. Whether you’re a prospective graduate student, post-doctoral researcher, or visiting scientist, our lab offers opportunities to engage in interdisciplinary, impactful research. With strong academic collaborations, field-based training, and a supportive mentorship environment, we’re committed to fostering the next generation of soil and environmental scientists.

Research Focus

Our research tends to focus on digital soil mapping, particularly considering issues with spatial prediction and soil geomorphology. However, new directions are influenced by the lab team members’ interests and current grant funding. Please review our recent research products for examples of our recent work.

Prospective Graduate Students

1. This research group always looks for exceptional graduate students with matching research interests. Our primary focus is on digital soil mapping and soil geomorphology. Nonetheless, funding is required for admission. Funded assistantships will be posted on this page.

2. Useful skills for success in our lab include some combination of the following: basic statistics, computer programming (e.g., Python, R), geographic information systems (GIS), and soil geomorphology. Fieldwork is frequently a component of our research activities, which makes having a driver’s license a vital asset.

3. Graduate students in this research group can choose from graduate programs in Soil Science, Environmental Science, or Sustainable Agriculture. Graduate students enjoy a strong community within the GLSI research group, department, and campus. Agronomy is a unique research environment, housing researchers ranging from soil to meteorology to plant sciences. This offers students the opportunity to interact with a diverse set of colleagues. Please get in touch with Bradley if you have any questions.

Prospective Post-doctorates and Visiting Scientists

These positions will be advertised when funding allows. However, if you are interested in developing a proposal or have your own resources and would like to connect with our research group, please contact Bradley.

Graduate Student Compact

I have a document that outlines the responsibilities and expectations of graduate students and me as the major professor. I will add this to our shared files.
