Dustin is working towards bringing soil mapping into the 21st Century and making it accessible to agricultural decision-makers.

As agriculture becomes more data-centric, it is essential to have the proper online tools to aid farmers and agronomists with accurate and precise information for their land. One of the best ways to achieve that goal is by providing them with surface soil textural data as it can be used to derive inferences about soil-crop needs.

Using refined soil texture analysis methods, geospatial information, and landowner cooperation, Dustin will make progress towards providing agricultural decision-makers with those tools. His research is in the Iowan Erosion Surface, a physiographic region that covers Northeast Iowa and Southeast Minnesota.

Dustin’s research will result in a new digital surface soil textural class map of the Iowan Erosion Surface and updated online soil databases.
