About

Luis Bentancor was born and raised in Montevideo the Capital City of Uruguay. He studied Agronomy Engineering with focus on forestry in Universidad de la Republica (Montevideo, Uruguay). After that, he did the Euroforester Master Program at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. Back in Uruguay, he joined the Soil and Water Department in the Agronomy Faculty (Universidad de la Republica) and he started his Master’s studies in Soil Sciences. Two years later he started to work as a teaching assistant in Edaphology and Management and Soil Conservation. In his Master’s thesis, he studied the nutrient extraction and energy yield in Eucalyptus dunnii evaluating different population densities and harvest systems. In 2019, Lui’s joined the Geospatial Laboratory for Soil Informatics at Iowa State University. His project is focused on making a map of the mollic epipedon thickness, and organic carbon of the State of Iowa, as well as studying and mapping the impact of pipeline effect on soil health indicators using GIS, remote sensing and machine learning algorithms to obtain high-quality maps.
