Tanner joined the Iowa State team in the Fall of 2018 with the Interdepartmental Plant Biology Program as well as the Predictive Plant Phenomics NSF NRT Program after receiving his BS from Buena Vista University in northwest Iowa. At BVU, Tanner worked on several research projects including an international collaboration on Sub-Antarctic mosses where he did the chemical analysis to determine anti-microbial properties. Tanner also worked a year with the National Forest service where his merit was recognized for substantial contributions to the broad public interest through research on short rotation woody crops and their use in phytotechnologies. In March 2019, Tanner Joined Dr. Thomas Lubberstedt’s lab where he is currently working on molecular breeding and spontaneous haploid genome doubling. In 2019, Tanner was awarded the Schuler award for his efforts in plant breeding.
