Chase Krug, a sophomore from Marion, Iowa is one of the Department of Agronomy's peer mentors.

Leah Philipp, sophomore in agronomy from Manchester, Iowa is one of two of the Department of Agronomy's peer mentors.

"I came to Iowa State because I originally wanted to study genetics in agriculture as I wanted to give back to the farming community that helped me become the person I am, and I knew Iowa State had an awesome ag program," said Leah. "At orientation, I realized I wanted to work more directly with farmers instead of in a research lab, so I changed my major to agronomy, and honestly, that was the absolute best decision I ever made."

New students in agronomy had the opportunity to go on a field trip and visit various industry locations around North West Iowa as well as network with professionals and other students within the major. The trip was from Friday, August 23 to Saturday, August 26 and was organized by Mary Wiedenhoeft. Other agronomy faculty members also helped with the trip.

The group began by visitng NEW Co-op at Roelyn and then traveled to the Bormann Ag Center and NRCS in Bode, IA. They then spent the afternoon at Corteva Agrisciences in Algona, IA where they were able to visit both the production and research facilities. They ended the night with visiting Mycogen Seed in Storm Lake, IA and grabbing some pizza for supper.

We have two special ladies who come to us from Oregon! Erin is from Redmond, Oregon and Audrey is from Portland, Oregon. Erin decided to come to Iowa State because she was looking for a degree in agriculture, and when she came on a visit, everything just clicked for her. Her favorites memories have been hanging out with friends that she has made here, they all enjoy going out for dinner or watching movies. Audrey decided to come to Iowa State because she was interested in agriculture, and she knew that ISU had a great program. She wasn’t quite sure where or what part of agriculture interested her most, but agronomy touched on many different topics, and included lots of plant science. Audrey is enjoying meeting new people while being here!
