Robert Horton, who holds the Charles F. Curtiss Distinguished Professorship in Agriculture and Life Sciences in agronomy at Iowa State University, is one of the senior scientists recognized by USDA with its national Multistate Research Excellence Award for 2021 for his part in the long-running project, “Soil, Water and Environmental Physics to Sustain Ag and Natural Resources.”

The multistate project, better known among researchers as W4188, is an initiative whose representatives come from more than 24 research institutions across the country. They collaborate to better understand how heat, water, energy and nutrients move through and interact with soil.

Research Excellence Award – The award is to recognize graduate students for outstanding research accomplishments as documented in resulting theses and dissertations. The Research Excellence Program is administered by the Graduate College with additional support from the Graduate and Professional Student Senate.

Brown Graduate Fellowship – The Brown Graduate Fellowship is used to strategically advance ISU research in the areas of study that are governed by the Valentine Hammes Family and Leopold Hammes Brown Family Trust

Teaching Excellence Award – The award recognizes and encourage outstanding achievement by graduate students in teaching. The program is administered by the Graduate College with additional support from the Graduate and Professional Student Senate.

The Department of Agronomy awards scholarships and recognition to graduate students each semester. Congratulations to the following Fall semester recipients:

Supporting graduate students in the area of conservation agriculture. Conservation may include but is not limited to environmental improvement, conservation tillage, cropping systems and nutrient management.
