The Agronomy Department adheres to ISU Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) standard laboratory safety procedures.

Required ISU EH&S Online Safety Lab Courses @ Workday Learning:

  • Laboratory Safety: Core Concepts (required every 3 years)
  • Fire Safety & Extinguisher Training (required annually)
  • Emergency Response Guide Video (required every 3 years)

Safety Training Curriculum for Lab Personnel (PDF) – additional required training depending on research needs

Environmental Health and Safety Lab Manual

Who is responsible for ensuring personnel are properly trained? Safety trainings are the responsibility of the PI/Faculty and supervisors. Supervisors can include faculty, staff, post-docs, and graduate students.

Field Safety Information

Required ISU EH&S Online Safety Field Courses @ Workday Learning:

  • Hazard Communication Training (Formerly Worker-Right-To-Know) (required every 3 years)
  • Pesticide Applicators License (required every 2 years) OR
  • Worker Protection Standard (WPS) Safety Training (required annually): see Training Dates below offered by Dani Clark
    • Agricultural Worker OR (workers include anyone doing tasks such as watering, potting plants, other tasks directly related to the production of agriculture plants)
    • Agricultural Handler (those who work with production of agricultural plants and those who mix, load or apply agricultural pesticides, clean/repair ag equipment, or assist with application of pesticides)
  • Others to consider based on your research needs:
    • BioCentury Research Farm safety training
    • Forklift driving
    • Golf cart and utility vehicle training
    • Tractor safety training
    • Research farms safety training
    • Scaffold safety training

Step 2: Select Menu from the top left. Select Learning in Apps.

Step 3: Select Discover from menu on left.

Step 4: In center, select Browse Topics under Browse Learning Topics.
