The Iowa State Crops Team recently competed at a contest hosted by the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture. The team found great success, placing 1st overall in the 4-year division. On the championship team were agronomy students; Rachel Casey, Jenna Cowen, and Benjamin Kolbe. Rachel placed 3rd, Jenna placed 4th, and Benjamin placed 5th as individuals. Alternate, Alyssa Swehla also did very well at the competition. Their advisor, Mindy DeVries, shares, “All of the students were grateful to be able to compete and exercise their agronomic knowledge!” The team is looking forward to future opportunities to participate in crop competitions as they arise.
It is only Rachel Casey’s second year with the team, and she feels really privileged that she can be a competing member. Rachel placed 3rd overall at the competition and was really proud of herself and the team's hard work that got them here. “I feel this team is the single best way that I have been able to apply all the knowledge I've gained from other classes at ISU,” Rachel shared. She is excited for their upcoming competition in April that will be taking place in Hutchinson, Kansas.
